John Hamilton, 10th of Fairholm was born on 30 August 1640.1 He was the son of Robert Hamilton, 9th of Fairholm and Marie Jean Rae.2 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Crawford, daughter of John Crawford of Roughselloch, on 25 April 1664.1 He married, secondly, Margaret Brown, daughter of Andrew Brown, on 22 January 1679.1 He died on 14 October 1696 at age 56.1
