Francis Herbert Leyland Stevenson was born on 29 February 1880.1 He was the son of Colonel James Stevenson of Braidwood and Frances Leyland.2 He married, firstly, Alice Pollock Stevenson, daughter of Alexander Shannan Stevenson, on 17 October 1903.1 He married, secondly, Eileen Gertrude Mary Briscoe, daughter of Major A. V. Briscoe, on 11 June 1914.1 He died on 17 January 1949 at age 68.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 1st Highland Light Infantry.1 He was Governor of Brixton Prison.1 He purchased Braidwood, which he inherited by his parents' 1879 marriage contract in 1926.1 He sold Braidwood in 1928 to David John Colville, 1st Baron Clydesmuir.1
