     Charles Nugent Close-Smith was born on 7 July 1911 at Buckingham, Buckinghamshire, England.1,2 He was the son of Major Thomas Close Smith and Hon. Caroline Mary Elizabeth Morgan-Grenville.3 He married Elizabeth Emily Vivien Kinsman, daughter of Major William Augustus Cecil Kinsman and Frances Elizabeth Newell, on 30 April 1946.1 He died on 22 August 1988 at age 77 at Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.1,2
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He was commissioned in 1938, in the service of the Royal Buckinghamshire Yeomanry.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel in 1945 in the Royal Artillery.1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.) in 1953.1 He was member of Lloyd's Committee between 1967 and 1970.1
