     James Hunter of Abbotshill was born on 5 August 1672.1 He was the son of Adam Hunter of Abbotshill and Marion Blair.2 He married Janet Fergusson, daughter of John Fergusson, in 1694.1 He died on 1 November 1739 at age 67.1

     Lt.-Col. John Fergusson, 13th of Craigdarroch was the son of Robert Fergusson, 12th of Craigdarroch and Elizabeth Grierson.2 He married Elizabeth McGhie, daughter of Alexander McGhie of Balmaghie, in May 1682.2 He died on 27 July 1689, killed in action.2
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dumfries-shire between 1661 and 1663.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dumfries-shire in 1665.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dumfries-shire in 1667.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Lord Dunbarton's Regiment of Foot.2 He fought in the Battle of Killierankie on 27 July 1689.2

     Sir James Hunter Blair of Dunskey, 1st Bt. was born on 21 February 1741.1 He was the son of John Hunter of Mainholm and Brownhill and Anne Cuninghame.2 He married Jean Blair, daughter of John Blair of Dunskey and Anne Kennedy, in 1770.1 He died on 1 July 1787 at age 46, with eight other children.1
     He was given the name of James Hunter at birth.1 In 1777 his name was legally changed to James Hunter Blair.1 He was a partner with Sir William Forbes.1 He was a banker at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court in 1786.1 He was created 1st Baronet Hunter Blair, of Dunskey [Great Britain] on 27 June 1786.1
