     Vice-Admiral Basil Charles Barrington Brooke was born on 6 April 1895.1 He was the son of John Charles Evelyn Hope Brooke and Hon. Violet Mary Barrington.1 He married Nora Evelyn Toppin, daughter of Charles Toppin, on 16 April 1925.1
     He was educated at Malvern College, Malvern, Worcestershire, England.1 He was commissioned in 1913 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was commanding officer of the H.M.S. Curlew between 1930 and 1940.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was commanding officer of the H.M.S. Southampton between 1940 and 1941.1 He was commanding officer of the H.M.S. Renown between 1944 and 1945.1 He was invested as a Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1946.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for East lothian.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of East Lothian.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1949.1 He retired from the military in 1949, with the rank of Vice-Admiral.1 He lived in 1972 at Dingle Hill, Hollybush, Ledbury, Herefordshire, England.1
