     George Hatfeild Dingley Gossip was born on 6 December 1841 at New York City, New York, U.S.A.2 He was the son of George Hatfeild Gossip and Mary Helen Sowler.2 He was baptised on 3 June 1847 at Hatfield, Yorkshire, England.2 He married Alicia Kenny, daughter of Joseph Kenny, in 1868 at Jersey, Channel Islands.2 He died on 11 May 1907 at age 65 at Liphook, Hampshire, England.2,3 He was buried on 15 March 1907 at York, Yorkshire, England.3
     He was a chess master.2 He lived at Hatfield House, Yorkshire, EnglandG.1
