     General Sir James Hope Grant was born on 21 July 1808 at Kilgraston, Perthshire, Scotland.3 He was the son of Francis Grant and Anne Oliphant.3 He was baptised on 13 August 1808 at Dunbarney, Perthshire, Scotland.3 He married Elizabeth Helen Tayler, daughter of Benjamin Tayler and Elizabeth Harrison O'Donollan, in 1847.1 He died on 7 March 1875 at age 66 at 32 Grosvenor Gardens, Westminster, London, England.3
     He fought in the Indian Mutiny.1 He fought in the China War in 1859, where he was responsible for burning the Summer Palace.1
