Colin Matheson, 3rd of Bennetsfield was the son of John Matheson, 2nd of Bennetsfield and Christina Gordon.2 He married Grace Grant, daughter of Patrick Grant of Glenmoriston, in 1784.1 He died in 1825.1
He gained the rank of officer between 1780 and 1783 in the service of the Gordon Fencibles.1 He had five daughters, of whom four married and had issue.1
