Admiral Sir William Garnham Luard was born on 7 April 1820 at Witham, Essex, England.2 He was the son of William Wright Luard and Charlotte Garnham.3 He married Charlotte Du Cane, daughter of Reverend Henry Du Cane and Mary Sowerby, in 1858.1 He died on 19 May 1910 at age 90 at Witham, Essex, England.2
He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)2 He was educated at Royal Naval College, Darmouth, Devon, England.2 He gained the rank of Admiral on 31 March 1885.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Essex.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Essex.2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1897.2
