     Brigadier Alexander Henry Delap West was born on 27 December 1877.1 He was the son of Reverend Henry Matthew West and Helen Mary Dunlop.1 He married Harriet Laura Chichester, daughter of Reverend Edward Arthur Chichester and Hon. Mary Agnes Cubitt, on 8 June 1915.2 He died on 10 March 1959 at age 81 at Newbury, Berkshire, EnglandG.3
     He was educated at Haileybury College, Haileybury, Hertfordshire, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902, where he was mentioned in despatches, and was wounded.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918, where he was mentioned in despatches four times.1 He was awarded the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917 and bar (1918).1 He gained the rank of Brigadier between 1928 and 1932 in the Royal Artillery, Eastern Command.1 He was awarded the Royal Humane Society's Silver Medal.1 He lived in 1958 at Broomdown, Chieveley, Newbury, Berkshire, EnglandG.1
