     Maj.-Gen. Edward Mortlock Studd was born in 1799 at Ipswich, Suffolk, England.2 He was the son of Edward Studd.3 He married, firstly, Mary Spurrier on 13 April 1820 at St. Phillips, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.3 He married, secondly, Emma Beatrice Bayly, daughter of Charlton Booth Bayly and Maria Dance, on 15 February 1855 at Holy Trinity, Paddington, London, England.2 He died on 6 December 1877.3
     He held the office of High Sheriff of Devon in 1862.3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Devon.3 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Devon.3
