George Leonard Nelson Hope was born on 21 October 1884.1 He was the son of Charles Hope and Leonora Louisa Isabella Orde.2 He married Honoria Mary Victoria Riddell, daughter of John Giffard Riddell, on 29 December 1908.1 He died in June 1974 at age 89.1
He graduated from Pembroke College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1905 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was assistant master in 1908 at Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, Devon, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.1 He was with the Foreign Office between 1919 and 1946.1
