     Sydney Charles Elphinstone Hartwell was born on 30 April 1844.1 He was the son of Sir Broderick Hartwell, 2nd Bt. and Alicia Gunthorpe.2 He married Jeannette Marion Jenkins, daughter of Colonel John Hadow Jenkins, on 18 October 1876.1 He died on 30 December 1899 at age 55.1

     Jeannette Marion Jenkins was the daughter of Colonel John Hadow Jenkins.2 She married Sydney Charles Elphinstone Hartwell, son of Sir Broderick Hartwell, 2nd Bt. and Alicia Gunthorpe, on 18 October 1876.1 She died on 13 April 1937.1
     From 18 October 1876, her married name became Hartwell.

     Barry Hartwell was born on 2 December 1880.1 He was the son of Sydney Charles Elphinstone Hartwell and Jeannette Marion Jenkins.2 He married Emily Maybell Dobbs, daughter of Joseph Dobbs, on 1 June 1912.1 He died on 30 October 1914 at age 33, killed in action.1
     He was educated between 1894 and 1897 at Haileybury College, Haileybury, Hertfordshire, EnglandG.3 He gained the rank of Captain in the Indian Army.1 He fought in the First World War.1

     Emily Maybell Dobbs was born in 1883 at Castlecomer, County Kilkenny, IrelandG.2 She was the daughter of Joseph Dobbs.3 She married Barry Hartwell, son of Sydney Charles Elphinstone Hartwell and Jeannette Marion Jenkins, on 1 June 1912.1 She died on 23 April 1979 at Bray, County Wicklow, IrelandG.2
     From 1 June 1912, her married name became Hartwell.

     General John Redmond Hartwell was born on 7 May 1887.1 He was the son of Sydney Charles Elphinstone Hartwell and Jeannette Marion Jenkins.2 He married, firstly, Nina Oliver St. John, daughter of General George Francis William St. John, on 28 February 1911.1 He and Nina Oliver St. John were divorced in 1921.1 He married, secondly, Hazel Hay Benton, daughter of Sir John Benton, on 5 April 1929.1 He married, thirdly, Edith Elizabeth Fosdyke, daughter of F. W. Fosdyke, on 22 September 1946.1 He died on 19 September 1970 at age 83.1
     He was educated at Radley College, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War, and was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1916.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in the Indian Army.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1949.1
