Sir Connop Thirwall Robert Guthrie, 1st Bt. was born on 6 July 1882.1 He married Mary Islay McEacharn, daughter of Sir Malcolm Donald McEacharn, on 14 October 1913.1 He died on 28 September 1945 at age 63.1
He gained the rank of Captain in 1914 in the service of the Grenadier Guards (SR).1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1915, where he was wounded.1 He was Special Representative in USA of the Ministry of Shipping between 1916 and 1919.1 He was decorated with the award of the Chevalier, Legion of Honour.1 He was decorated with the award of the Commander, Order of the Crown of Italy.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1918.1 He was member of the USA Government Shipping Control Committee between 1918 and 1919.1 He was decorated with the award of the Distinguished Service Medal (D.S.M.) (U.S.).1 He was created 1st Baronet Guthrie, of Brent Eleigh Hall, co. Suffolk [U.K.] on 6 February 1936.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1941 and 1945, in the Security Division.1
