     He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)1 He was a practising barrister.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Star of India (C.S.I.)1

     He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Artillery.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.)1
