     William Unwin Heygate was born on 12 March 1825.1 He was the son of Sir William Heygate, 1st Bt. and Isabella Mackmurdo.2 He married Constance Mary Beaumont, daughter of Sir George Howland Willoughby Beaumont, 8th Bt. and Mary Anne Howley, on 6 July 1852.1 He died on 2 March 1902 at age 76.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He graduated from Merton College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1847 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He graduated from Merton College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1850 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Leicestershire Yeomanry Cavalry.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Leicester between 1860 and 1865.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Stamford in 1868.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for South Leicestershire between 1870 and 1880.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Leicestershire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Leicestershire.1 He lived at Roecliffe Hall, Leicestershire, England.1
