     Sir William Forbes of Craigievar, 1st Bt. was the son of William Forbes of Menie and Craigievar and Margaret Udward.2 He married Bethia Murray, daughter of Sir Archibald Murray of Blackbarony, 1st Bt. and Margaret Maule, circa 1636.1 He died in 1648.3
     He was created 1st Baronet Forbes, of Craigievar [Nova Scotia] on 20 April 1630, with remainder to heirs and assigns whatsoever.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Aberdeenshire [Scotland] between 1639 and 1641.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Aberdeenshire [Scotland] in 1644.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Aberdeenshire [Scotland] from 1645 to 1646.1 He fought in the English Civil War, commander of a troop of Parliamentary Horse.1
