     Major George Oswald Michael Furnell was born on 22 July 1878.1 He was the son of George Cantillon Furnell and Maria Leah Quirke.2 He married Ada Westropp Bennett, daughter of Captain Thomas Westropp Bennett, on 15 June 1927.1 He died on 15 September 1942 at age 64, without issue.1
     He was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, EnglandG.1 He was commander of the British West African Expedition in 1911.1 He fought in the First World War, where he became a POW.1 He gained the rank of Major in the 18th Royal Irish Regiment.1 He lived at Ballymurphy House, Patrickswell, County Limerick, IrelandG.1
