     John Francis Fagan was born on 28 December 1799.¹ He was the son of Nicholas FitzMaurice Fagan and Mary Seton Walsh.^2,1 He married, firstly, Mary Armstrong, daughter of John Armstrong and Frances Dusenbury, on 21 June 1833.¹ He married, secondly, Emily Rogers Estell, daughter of Job Estell and Rhoda Rogers, on 16 November 1837.¹ He died on 3 December 1872 at age 72.¹
     He went to sea as boy in vessels belonging to his maternal grandfather.¹ At Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, U.S.A.^G, He owned and edited the Onondaga Register.¹ At Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.^G, He organised a stereotype foundry under the name of J. Fagan and Son.¹ He lived at Feltrim House, Penn Square, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.^G.¹
