Lt.-Cdr. Brian Harold Lithgow Braidwood was born on 2 May 1937.1 He is the son of Major Walter Standish Braidwood and Amy Lilian Dorman.2 He married Sonia Margaret Rowlandson, daughter of Captain Arthur Hadden Rowlandson, on 4 April 1964.1
He was educated at Portora Royal School, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, IrelandG.1 He was educated at Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, Devon, EnglandG.1 He was qualified in Clearance Diving in 1964.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Navy.1 He was Far East Fleet Clearance Diving Officer between 1968 and 1971.1 He was awarded the Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct in 1971.1 He was Commanding Officer of the Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal School in 1973.1 He lived in 1976 at 39 Woodlands Avenue, Emsworth, Hampshire, EnglandG.1
