Rickard Joseph Gerard Deasy was born on 13 March 1916.1 He is the son of Major Henry Hugh Peter Deasy and Dolores Mercedes Leocardia Gertrude Josephine Hickie.2 He married Countess Sheila de Gallagh, daughter of Count Sean Dominic O'Kelly de Gallagh, on 19 May 1947.1
He was educated at Ampleforth College, Ampleforth, Yorkshire, England.1 He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He gained the rank of Captain of Artillery between 1939 and 1944 in the service of the Eire Defence Force.1 He was President of the National Farmers Association of Ireland between 1961 and 1967.1 He lived in 1976 at Cnoc na Faire, County Tipperary, Ireland.1
