     Basil Thornton Cookman was born circa 1904.1 He was the son of Nathaniel George Cookman and L. K. T. (?).3,2 He died on 7 October 1943 at AlgeriaG, killed in action.1,2
     He gained the rank of Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.2 He fought in the Second World War.1

     Mary Elizabeth Cookman was the daughter of Nathaniel Narcissus Cookman and Sarah Porter Thornton.2,1 She married Hugh Aylmer Thornton, son of Thomas Thornton, on 23 January 1908.1 She died on 7 June 1967.1
     From 23 January 1908, her married name became Thornton.

     He was in the Indian Civil Service.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.)1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Star of India (C.S.I.)1
