     Arthur Robert Johnstone Dewar was born on 11 October 1869 at Karachi, Pakistan.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. James Raymond Johnstone Dewar and Caroline Emily Phayre.2 He married Isabella Harriet Hutchinson, daughter of George William Caldwell Hutchinson, on 24 June 1896.1
     Arthur Robert Johnstone Dewar was educated at Queens' College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1896 in the service of the 5th Battalion, Warwickshire Regiment.1 He was Superintendent of Police, Straits Settlements.1
