Hudson Ewbanke Kearley, 1st Viscount Devonport was born on 1 September 1856.1 He was the son of George Ewbanke Kearley and Mary Ann Hudson.2 He married Selina Chester, daughter of Edward Chester, on 18 January 1888.1 He died on 5 September 1934 at age 78.1
Hudson Ewbanke Kearley, 1st Viscount Devonport held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Devonport between 1892 and 1910.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Buckinghamshire.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Surrey.1 He was senior partner of Kearley and Tonge of London, Calcutta and Ceylon.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Buckinghamshire.1 He held the office of Parliamentary Secretary, Board of Trade between 1905 and 1909.1 He was created 1st Baronet Kearley, of Wittington, co. Buckingham [U.K.] on 22 July 1908.1 He was chairman of the Port of London Authority between 1909 and 1925.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 18 October 1909.1 He was created 1st Baron Devonport, of Wittington, co. Buckingham [U.K.] on 15 July 1910.1 He was Food Controller between 1916 and 1917.1 He was created 1st Viscount Devonport, of Wittington, co. Buckingham [U.K.] on 22 June 1917.1

Selina Chester was the daughter of Edward Chester.2 She married Hudson Ewbanke Kearley, 1st Viscount Devonport, son of George Ewbanke Kearley and Mary Ann Hudson, on 18 January 1888.1 She died on 28 September 1931.1
From 18 January 1888, her married name became Kearley. As a result of her marriage, Selina Chester was styled as Baroness Devonport on 15 July 1910. As a result of her marriage, Selina Chester was styled as Viscountess Devonport on 22 June 1917.
