     Brig.-Gen. Frederick Montgomerie Carleton was born on 21 July 1867.1 He was the son of General Henry Alexander Carleton and Elizabeth Boyle.2 He married Emma Gwendolen Priscilla Lloyd, daughter of Sampson Samuel Lloyd and Jane Emilia Lloyd, on 20 November 1899.1 He died on 15 May 1922 at age 54.1
     He was educated at Bath College, Bath, Somerset, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Oxford Military College, Hollow Way, Cowley, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Dongola Expedition in 1896.1 He fought in the Nile Expedition in 1897.1 He fought in the Sierra Leone between 1898 and 1899, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He fought in the Mendiland Expedition.1 He fought in the Karene and Protectorate Expeditions.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900.1 He fought in the Boer War, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.1 In 1902 psc.1 He retired from the military in 1909, with the rank of Brigadier-General, late of the King's Own Regiment.1 He was admitted to HM Honourable Corps of Gentlemen-at-Arms.1
