Mollie Montgomerie was born on 10 September 1907.1 She was the daughter of Frank Douglas Montgomerie and Esmé Napier.1 She married, firstly, Augustine Courtauld, son of Samuel Augustine Courtauld, on 2 January 1932.2 She married, secondly, Richard Austen Butler, Baron Butler of Saffron Walden, son of Sir Montagu Sherard Dawes Butler and Anne Gertrude Smith, on 21 October 1959.1 She died on 18 February 2009 at age 101.1
From 2 January 1932, her married name became Courtauld. She held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Essex in 1944.3 From 21 October 1959, her married name became Butler.1 After her marriage, Mollie Montgomerie was styled as Baroness Butler of Saffron Walden on 19 February 1965. She was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries, Scotland (F.S.A.Scot.)3
