Sir John de Grey, 2nd Lord Grey (of Codnor) was born circa 1396.1 He was the son of Sir Richard de Grey, 1st Lord Grey (of Codnor) and Elizabeth Basset.2 He married Elizabeth FitzGerald, daughter of Gerald FitzMaurice FitzGerald, 5th Earl of Kildare and Agnes Darcy.1 He died on 14 September 1430, without issue.3
Sir John de Grey, 2nd Lord Grey (of Codnor) succeeded to the title of 2nd Lord Grey, of Codnor, co. Derbys [E., 1397] on 1 August 1418.3 He held the office of Lieutenant of Ireland from March 1426/27 to 1430.1
