Lt.-Gen. Robert Balfour, 6th of Balbirnie was born on 3 May 1772.1 He was the son of John Balfour, 5th of Balbirnie and Ellen Gordon.1 He married Eglantyne Katherine Fordyce, daughter of John Fordyce of Ayton and Catharine Maxwell, on 8 August 1808.1 He died on 31 October 1837 at age 65.1
