     Robert Haldane Smith, Baron Smith of Kelvin was born on 8 August 1944.1 He is the son of Robert Haldane Smith and Jean Adams.1 He married Alison Marjorie Bell in 1969.1
     He was educated at Allan Glen's High School, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG.2 He was registered as a Chartered Accountant in 1968.2 He was with ICFC between 1968 and 1982.2 He wrote the book Managing Your Company's Finances, published 1981.2 He was with Royal Bank of Scotland plc between 1983 and 1985.2 He was chief executive of Morgan Grenfell Asset Management Ltd between 1996 and 2000.2 He was appointed Knight in 1999.1 He was created Baron Smith of Kelvin, of Kelvin in the City of Glasgow [U.K. Life Peer] in 2008.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 2014.3 He was awarded the Companion of Honour (C.H.) in 2016.4
