Charles Cockburn of Sandybed is the son of Adam Cockburn, Lord Ormiston and Lady Susanna Hamilton.2 He married Margaret Haldane, daughter of John Haldane, 14th of Gleneagles and Helen Erskine, in 1720.1

George Haldane, 18th of Gleneagles was baptised on 15 June 1729.2 He was the son of Charles Cockburn of Sandybed and Margaret Haldane.2 He married by contract, firstly, Bethia Dundas, daughter of Thomas Dundas of Fingask and Lady Janet Maitland, on 9 May 1766.2 He married, secondly, Margaret Drummond, daughter of James Francis Edward Drummond, 5th Viscount Strathallan and Euphemia Gordon, in December 1779.2 He died on 2 March 1799 at age 69.2
He was given the name of George Cockburn at birth.2 His name was legally changed to George Haldane.2 On 5 August 1768 he was served heir to his uncle in lands and baronies of Gleneagles and Haldane.2 He had two other sons and two other daughters (all died unmarried) by his second wife.2
