     F/Lt. Eugene Esmonde, V.C. was born on 1 March 1909.1 He was the son of John Joseph Esmonde and Eily O'Sullivan.2 He died on 12 February 1942 at age 32, killed in action in the Channel Straits.1
     F/Lt.
