Lt.-Col. William Herbert Anderson, V.C.1

     Lt.-Col. William Herbert Anderson, V.C. was born on 29 December 1881 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.2 He was the son of William James Anderson.2 He married Gertrude Campbell Gilmour, daughter of William Ewing Gilmour, on 4 July 1909 at Tullichawan, Alexandria, Dumbartonshire, Scotland.2 He died on 25 March 1918 at age 36 at Bois Favieres, France, killed in action.2
     He fought in the First World War.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 12th (S) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry.2 He was awarded the Victoria Cross (V.C.) posthumously.1
