     Admiral Sir James Stirling was born in January 1791.2 He is the son of Andrew Stirling of Drumpellier and Anne Dorothea Stirling.2 He married Ellen Mangles, daughter of James Mangles and Mary Hughes, on 3 September 1823.2 He died on 22 April 1865 at age 74.2
     He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)2 He held the office of Governor of Western Australia in 1829.2
