     He gained the rank of Captain in the King's Royal Rifle Corps.² He gained the rank of Captain in the 60th Rifles.¹ He was awarded the Royal Officers' Decoration (V.D.)² He was Colonel of the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.² He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Berwickshire in 1922.²

     John Carnegie was born on 12 August 1757.¹ He was the son of Sir James Carnegie of Pittarrow, 3rd Bt. and Christian Doig.¹ He married Catherine Tireman, daughter of Rev. Prebendary unknown Tireman, in October 1791.¹ He died in 1823.¹
     He gained the rank of officer in the 11th Dragoons.¹
