     John Francis Burleigh was born on 22 August 1903 at Kaitangata, Otago, New Zealand.1 He is the son of Robert Burleigh and Sarah Pennington.1 He married Josephine Janet Allan in 1936 at Mr. Allan's Farm, Wyndham, Southland, New Zealand.1
     John Francis Burleigh was an electrical apprentice with Turnbull & Sons Ltd from 1919 to 1924 at Dunedin, New Zealand.2 He was an electrician for Simposn & Barns Ltd from 1924 to 1928 at Alexandra, New Zealand.3 He was an electrician from 1929 to 1948 at Wyndham, Southland, New Zealand.4 He was an electrician with Firestone Tyre & Rubber from 1949 to 1963 at Papanui, Christchurch, New Zealand.5
