     William Thompson was born at Ashburton, New Zealand.1 He is the son of Robert Thompson.2 He married Margaret Bennett, daughter of Robert Bennett and Maria Cummins.1
     William immigrated to Lyttelton, Canterbury, New Zealand on the ship Matoaka, arriving on February 1862. He lived at 65 Wakanui Road, Ashburton, New Zealand, in 1917.3

     Leslie Bennett Thompson was born in 1897.2 He was the son of William Thompson and Margaret Bennett.1 He died on 17 December 1917 at Ypres, Belgium.2 He was buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, Flanders, Belgium.3
     Leslie Bennett Thompson was a carter before 1917 at Ashburton, New Zealand.4 Leslie served in the 3rd Battalion, Otago Regiment, 1st NZEF on 16 July 1917 as a private.4
