     Clarence Francis Butler was born on 29 August 1920.1 He is the son of Charles Edward Butler and Alice Elizabeth Worship.1 He married, firstly, Pamela Constance Drakard, daughter of Francis John Drakard, on 14 March 1944.1 He married, secondly, Annette Dolors Taylor Froud, daughter of Percy Herbert Froud, on 1 November 1996.1
     Clarence Francis Butler was educated at Rugby College, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was wounded and was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Flight Lieutenant in the service of the Royal Air Force.1 He graduated from Christ's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1946 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He lived in 2003 at Martins, Ramsey Road, Laxey, Isle of Man.1
