     Lt.-Gen. Sir Robert Barton was born on 26 July 1768.1 He was the son of William Barton and Grace Massy.1 He married, firstly, Maria Paynter, daughter of John Paynter, in 1802.1 He married, secondly, Marion Colette Addison, daughter of John Addison.1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in the service of the Army.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Hanoverian Order (K.C.H.).1
