     John Philip Bagwell was born on 11 August 1874.1 He was the son of Richard Bagwell and Harriette Philippa Jocelyn Newton.1 He married Louisa Shaw, daughter of Major-Gen. George Shaw, on 23 January 1901.1 He died on 22 August 1946 at age 72.1
     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London, England.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He was the Assistant Superintendent of Line for the Midland Railway between 1905 and 1909.1 He was the Superintendent of Passenger Service between 1910 and 1911.1 He was the General Manager of the Great Northern Railway of Ireland between 1911 and 1926.1 He held the office of Senator [Irish Free State] between 1922 and 1936.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1 He lived at Marlfield, Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland.1
