     Robert Armstrong Bagnell was born on 10 December 1815.1 He was the son of Reverend William Henry Bagnell and Ann Armstrong.1 He died on 29 July 1863 at age 47, unmarried.1
     He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG, in 1842 with a Bachelor of Medicine (M.B.)1 He gained the rank of Surgeon in the 2nd Regiment of the Tipperary Militia.1
