     Henry Eardley Stephen Fremantle was born on 6 August 1874.1 He was the son of Very Rev. Hon. William Henry Fremantle and Isabella Maria Eardley.1 He married, firstly, Margaret Elizabeth Macdonald, daughter of Alexander Macdonald, on 20 April 1899.1 He married, secondly, Helen Eksteen, daughter of Jacobus Johannes Eksteen, on 20 September 1910.1 He died on 6 September 1931 at age 57.1
     He graduated from Oriel College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was Professor of English and Philosophy between 1899 and 1904 at South African College, Cape Town, Cape Province, South AfricaG.1 He was editor of South African News between 1903 and 1908.1 He held the office of Member of the Legislative Assembly (M.L.A.) [Cape Colony] between 1906 and 1910, for Uitenhage.1 He was chairman of the Education Commission of Cape Colony between 1910 and 1911.1 He was editor of South African News between 1910 and 1911.1 He held the office of Member of the Legislative Assembly (M.L.A.)
