     Lt.-Col. William Maxwell Acton was born on 15 July 1878.1 He was the son of Colonel Hampden Acton and Lucy Ussher Greer.1 He married Elsie Lorna Heward Bell, daughter of William Heward Bell, on 2 May 1914.1 He died on 27 December 1939 at age 61.1
     Lt.-Col. William Maxwell Acton was educated at Oxford Military College, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1916, when he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was decorated with the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.).1 He served Lieutenant-Colonel.1 He retired from the military in 1922.1
