     Major Richard Martin Crofton was born on 6 November 1854.2 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Richard Henry Crofton and Frances Mary Marsh.2 He married Marion Emma Heath, daughter of Vice-Admiral Sir Leopold George Heath and Mary Emma Marsh, on 5 January 1892.1,2 He died on 24 January 1899 at age 44 at India, without issue.1,2
     He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Horse Artillery.1
