William Porteous Colyer-Fergusson was born on 18 October 1893.1 He was the son of Sir Thomas Colyer Colyer-Fergusson, 3rd Bt. and Beatrice Stanley Muller.2 He married, firstly, Doris Dunstan Ford-Smith, daughter of William Dunstan Ford-Smith, on 4 June 1919.1 He and Doris Dunstan Ford-Smith were divorced in 1938.1 He married, secondly, Isobel Mary Fairbairn, daughter of Reverend Robert Trotter Fairbairn, in January 1964.1 He died on 2 March 1974 at age 80, without issue.1
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London, England.1 He was educated at University College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the Northamptonshire Regiment.1
