     Sir Robert John McConnell, 1st Bt. was born on 6 February 1853.¹ He was the son of Joseph McConnell and Elizabeth McBride.² He married, firstly, Mary Elizabeth Smiley, daughter of Thomas Smiley, on 26 January 1874.¹ He married, secondly, Elsie Hewson, daughter of George Hewson, on 27 April 1897.³ He died on 22 April 1927 at age 74.³
     Sir Robert John McConnell, 1st Bt. held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Antrim.¹ He held the office of Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1900.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Antrim.¹ He was created 1st Baronet McConnell, of the Moat, Strandtown, Belfast [U.K.] on 25 September 1900.¹
