     Colonel Sir Thomas Francis Fremantle, 3rd Baron Cottesloe was born on 5 February 1862.1 He was the son of Thomas Francis Fremantle, 2nd Baron Cottesloe and Lady Augusta Henrietta Scott.1 He married Frances Tapling, daughter of Thomas Tapling, on 16 April 1896.1 He died on 19 July 1956 at age 94.1
     Colonel Sir Thomas Francis Fremantle, 3rd Baron Cottesloe was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.1 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1885 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1889 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Buckinghamshire.1 He was decorated with the Territorial Decoration (T.D.).1 He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the Buckinghamshire Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.1 He was invested as a Knight of Justice, Order of St. John of Jerusalem (K.J.St.J.).1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Leicestershire.1 He was decorated with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Officers' Decoration (V.D.).1 He was Assistant Secretary to the Secretary of State for War between 1900 and 1903.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the service of the Buckinghamshire Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baron Cottesloe, of Swanbourne and Hardwick, co. Buckingham [U.K., 1874] on 13 April 1918.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet Fremantle, of Swanbourne and Hardwick, co. Buckingham [U.K., 1821] on 13 April 1918.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Baron Fremantle [Austrian Empire, 1816] on 13 April 1918.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire between 1923 and 1954.1 He was Chairman of Quarter Sessions for Buckinghamshire between 1925 and 1937.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1926.1

     Frances Tapling was the daughter of Thomas Tapling.1 She married Colonel Sir Thomas Francis Fremantle, 3rd Baron Cottesloe, son of Thomas Francis Fremantle, 2nd Baron Cottesloe and Lady Augusta Henrietta Scott, on 16 April 1896.1 She died on 4 April 1956.1
     From 16 April 1896, her married name became Fremantle.1 As a result of her marriage, Frances Tapling was styled as Baroness Cottesloe on 13 April 1918.
