     Lt.-Col. Richard Zachariah Mudge was born in 1789.1 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. William Mudge and Margaret Jane Williamson.1 He married Alice Watson Hull, daughter of James Watson Hull.1
     Lt.-Col. Richard Zachariah Mudge was educated at Blackheath, Kent, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Kent, England.1 He was commissioned in 1807, in the service of the Royal Engineers.1 He fought in the Peninsular Wars.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Royal Engineers.1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.).1 He was a director of geodesical operations, with the Trigonometrical Survey of Great Britain.1 He lived at Beechwood, Devon, England.1

     Sophia Hull was baptised on 23 May 1786 at St. Andrew's Church, Holborn, London, England.1 She was the daughter of James Watson Hull.1 She married Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles, son of Benjamin Raffles and Anne Lyde Linderman, on 22 February 1817 at St. Marylebone Church, Marylebone, London, England.1 She died on 12 December 1858 at age 72.1
     From 22 February 1817, her married name became Raffles.1

Sir Thomas Raffles2
     Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles was born on board the ship Ann, off the coast of Jamaica on 6 July 1781.1 He was the son of Benjamin Raffles and Anne Lyde Linderman.1 He married, firstly, Olive Marianne Devenish on 14 March 1805.1 He married, secondly, Sophia Hull, daughter of James Watson Hull, on 22 February 1817 at St. Marylebone Church, Marylebone, London, England.1 He died on 5 July 1826 at age 44.1
     Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles held the office of Lieutenant-Governor of Java in 1811.1
     He founded the city of Singapore.1 He wrote the book History of Java, published 1817.1
