Colonel Douglas Edward Cayley was born on 15 July 1870.1 He was the son of Henry Cayley and Letitia Mary Walters.2 He married Jessie Eyre Duff Gibbon, daughter of Sir William Duff Gibbon, on 7 November 1906.1 He died on 19 December 1951 at age 81.1
Colonel Douglas Edward Cayley fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded and mentioned in despatches.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1915.1 He was decorated with the award of Croix de Guerre.1 He was decorated with the award of Croix de Guerre (Belgium).1 He was decorated with the award of Order of the Crown of Belgium.1 He was decorated with the award of Order of the White Eagle of Serbia (3rd Class with swords).1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the 4th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1919.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Major-General in 1920.1
