     Terence Burns, Baron Burns was born on 13 March 1944.1 He is the son of Patrick Owen Burns and Doris (?).1 He married Anne Elizabeth Powell in 1969.1
     Terence Burns, Baron Burns was educated at Houghton-Le-Spring Grammar School, Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham, England.1 He graduated from University of Manchester, Manchester, Lancashire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He was educated at London Business School, London, England.1 He was invested as a Knight in 1983.1 He was a visiting Fellow between 1991 and 1997 at Nuffield College, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He held the office of Permanent Secretary to HM Treasury between 1991 and 1998.1 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1995.1 He was created Baron Burns, of Pitshanger in the London Borough of Ealing [U.K. Life Peer] on 13 June 1998.1 He was a director of Pearson plc in 1999.1 He was a director of Legal and General in 1999.1 He was a director of The British Law Company plc in 2000.1
     He has a son and two daughters.1
