     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 5th Dragoon Guards.1

     Admiral Sir Michael Henry Hodges was born on 29 September 1874.2 He was the son of Lt.-Col. John Francis Hodges.1 He married Frederica Octavia Tiarks, daughter of Henry Frederic Tiarks and Agnes Morris, on 29 October 1903.1 He died on 3 November 1951 at age 77.2
     He was commissioned in 1887, in the service of the Royal Navy.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1895.2 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1900, |including the defense of Ladysmith, and was mentioned in despatches.2 He gained the rank of Commander in 1902.2 He gained the rank of Captain in 1908.2 He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1914.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1919.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1919.2 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1925.2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1925.1 He held the office of Second Sea Lord of the Admiralty between 1927 and 1929.2 He gained the rank of Admiral in 1929.2 He was Commander-in-CHief of the Atlantic Fleet between 1930 and 1931.2
